Default MOT requirements for petrol cap? - 06-19-2006 , 11:21 AM

Anyone familiar with these?
Does the petrol cap need to be lockable or will the one-size-fits-all
type without a key do?

The cap must seal properly, that is afaik the only mot requirement, so a
push fit one won't do, there is a push fit and expand one that is probably
ok, but a new proper cap is usually less than ten pounds anyway.
ps a useful tip is that most garages have a box of left over caps, it is
worth visiting a few and having a rummage.

Art Deco (art_deco (AT) 127 (DOT) 0.0.1) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were
saying :

How many times does www.motuk.co.uk need to be posted?

Would anybody read it? Many people seem incapable of doing any basic
research, so it's unlikely.

I'm certaom that the only requirement is that it must seal the chamber,
which is usually a misnomer, as a one-way vavle is usually in place (if not
more than one) which will prevent fuel flowing out of the tank without aid.

Something to remember is that no petrol cap could potentially result in
really crap fuel consumption; can't remember the exact details of this, but
it would make sense that when the tank is pressurised any air gaps could
cause an issue.

Even less likely than having any basic manners?
