Renault 19 speedo cable

1990 1.4 Auto

Can anyone describe (to somebody mechanically challenged) where exactly the
location of the engine end of the speedo cable is??
The Haynes pamphlet only gives a vague (zen like) reference to being in the
engine compartment
I've wasted best part of today beating my swallocks off trying to get
dashboard off only to find I need to free it from the other end first

It will be at the gear box - it will be a screw in fitting or it maybe a
little coloured block sort of square in shape.

On the top at the rear of the gearbox, right by the rear
engine/gearbox mount.
You should be able to detach it from the instrument panel though
without taking it off the gearbox.
