Default Servicing while under warranty - 09-12-2009 , 06:59 AM

Hi all,

I have a Peugeot 307, 1.6 HDi, '07 mark and it needs its 24,000
service.

It has about a year left on its 3-year warranty and I'm wondering if
the service needs to be done by a Peugeot dealer. My question is also
if it doesn't need to be done by a dealer, can it be done by a general
garage using equivalent parts and still retain my warranty status?

Can I even do the service myself????

Thanks in advance.

John

You can use any garage (must be vat registered) they must use factory approved parts
..

One of the problems you may come accross is getting the service indicator reset not
all garages have the latest software to do this (circa £5000 of your freindly psa
dealers)

The dealers will set it for you but charge half an hour which equates to around
£70.00

Does "factory approved parts" mean Peugeot parts? I suspect that the
garage that I'm thinking of using will just use equivalents from a
motor factors....I don't have a problem with this but am just thinking
about the warranty.

Yes it means parts supplied by PSA , quite often the parts from motorfactors are
identical being made at the same factory that supplies PSA but without the Peugoet
stamp on it its likely to give you warranty issues.

A quick Google to the Pug website enables you to see the warranty terms,
which are here
http://www.peugeot.co.uk/resources/content/0.0_Common_images/PDFs/3_7_warranty_terms_and_conditions_v2.pdf

May I suggest you read them and then ask any questions you may have
afterwards?

No, there has been no requirement for this for years, although main
dealers will lie and say there is.

Not equivalent parts - it must be genuine parts. They are just as cheap
as pattern parts but better quality. Why would you put cheap parts on
a car!

Can if you like, but this will invalidate your warranty.

Because car dealers mark them up more than anywhere else? Someone has to
pay for those posh showrooms.

And if it came to law, the maker would have to prove non makers parts had
caused the problem.

Even if you ask them to get original parts (as I routinely do,
irrespective of car age)?
