Default BMW turbodiesels - 04-04-2007 , 11:01 AM

Hi,

Anyone know if the bigger (3 litre) S6 and V8 BMW TDs can run on veg
oil? What sort of power & torque do they develop? Any links to the
relevant info would be gratefully received.

Cheers.

Highly unlikely you'd get away with it in a modern diesel - the high
pressure pumps are made with very tight tolerances and end up very
knackered very quickly if they get a fuel outside operating spec.

To use veg. oil, you need an olde-worlde diesel lump.

Some people think that any four cylinder donk is inept, though.

Cheers Steve, I'm looking for something (if it exists) that would run
on veg oil and have power of at least 170BHP and torque of at least
270 lb ft. & 6 cylinder or more (I say looking, it's a purely
theoretical exercise is this, nowt else) - you got any idea what might
work?

I have a feeling you'll be looking at commercial engines - can't think
of any car with an old-worlde diesel of that kind of spec.

Erm, thinking about it - if you were to go for a 5-pot, I think the old
VAG 2.5 TDI would chip to those specs.

Yes! I forgot all about them, could very well do the job. Cheers again
Steve.
