Why OTT? As for expensive, you pay for what you get.

Why over the top? Because some people just need it to get them to the odd
place every so often, don't tow, don't drive a truck or a bus and derive
little benefit from a larger screen.

For these people it's over the top.
But the TomTom one is cheap, easy to use and works very well. The fact
that it CAN do other stuff doesn't make it 'over the top'.

You're blaming the device for your inability to work with it. That isn't
the i2 or i3's problem, it's yours.
Not really. He didn't say it wasn't useable, and my interpretation was
simply that he didn't find it as slick and user friendly as other units.
In any case, a poor user interface IS the problem of the device, not
of the user - a simple and common task like address entry should be
intuitive.

Aren't the i2 and i3 Garmins? And as such, not 'those Medion things' ?

Yes and I don't know, I just figured that "those medion things" was a
trucker expression.

No I think he was referring to the Medion PPC based solutions that Chet
mentioned Although that's a guess...

Navman cheapest one?

Etc...

You can get a Garmin i3 for 80 quid these days.

I use one in the company shed, works very well - not as many features asTomTom, but I prefer it for everyday use.
I have used both the TomTom GO 910 and the TomTom ONE...They both have
different features and serve different types of people but I
absolutely loved them both and couldn't have gone wrong with either.
The brand is great and they both have bells & whistles that i really
liked...I'd say go with a TomTom.
