You've bought something with a NorthStar engine?

Nah, I was just going to buy some software that pulls 2 of the ignition
leads off.

The Thinkpad is twice as thick, twice as heavy, around the same width

assume
there's a lot more space inside the Thinkpad for air to circulate.

1-0 to the Thinkpad then.

Depends if you want a tiny little notebook for a bit of basic interwebby
stuff (most of the time) or an industrial strength door-stop with crap
battery life and injury inducing weight. (I carry the Thinkpad around
all day and my shoulder is starting to suffer).

I bet you eat quiche as well.

Cunt.

But, seriously, laptop bags can cause all sorts of shoulder problems if
you're not careful. Thing is, you don't notice them at the time - you
only notice there's a problem when you get in the car the following
morning and find it's a painful stretch to the gearstick.

Agreed, what's the point in buying a laptop with a decent CPU, then
turning
it down to prehistoric power...

Because, in reality, you don't need 2GHz of Core Duo power 99.9% of the
time.

Much better to throttle back for better battery life / energy
efficiency.

Why did you buy a grossly overpowered computer in the first place then?
Lol. With wireless on, screen on half brightness (enough for normal
daylight) doing general MSN, P2P and web browsy stuff, my Macbook gives
me just over 5:30 runtime on battery, which I reckon is pretty effin
impressive - it's is vastly more than any other laptop I've ever used.
If I can extend that by a couple of hours and give my battery a few more
months life at the cost of using 6% of processor capacity instead of 3%,
then why not? I can always speed it up again if I want to..

Quote:
Let's put it this way - I haven't noticed any significant slowdown in
performance even though I've cut CPU speed by half.

I'm gonna run my car on 2 cylinders to see if I can tell the difference.
Cool. Although I reckon I better analogy might be to drive something
with a straight six instead of a V12 and see if you notice the
difference - you might, but it's still pretty sweet :-)
