Max Power snidy comments aside... I've got a hankering for a Saxo VTS /
Pug
106 GTi.

Will mean selling the Passat to pay for it, but... I'm not doing that
many
miles any more, and fancy something a bit more fun.

So... am I going through a midlife crisis???

If buying a sports car means going through a mid life crisis it means I
have
been going through one since I was 17.

You'll be hung, drawn and quartered by some around here, if you refer to
those as a 'sports car'. ;-)

'Sporty' car is probably nearer the mark Get one, YKIMS, they're great
fun to drive When Tim says they're crap, you have to remember he thinks
the 205 GTi handles like shit. Draw your own conclusions...

And as for the hot start thing, I know 3 people who've had VTS' and none of
them had said problem? Sounds to me like a couple had said problem and
Watchdog ran a story on it or something, so automatically they all
apparantly do it...

As a side note, 106 GTis have half leather and the Saxos don't, also, and
this is just IME/O, Pugs always seem better built than their Citroen
counterparts.

LOL.

I prefer the look of the 106 tbh, and around here at least, you seem to see
less chavved up 106 GTis, compared to Saxo VTSs'.

My girlfriend, at 6ft, has that problem in hers as she sits bolt
upright.
It doesnt bother me as I have my seat reclined back a bit. Dont
remember
it
being a problem in my gold one though, so maybe the seat got altered for
the
later ones.

The overall feeling at the time was 'this is a real hoot... but if I roll
it, I'm most definitely dead'. ;-)

They're actually very strong. T t-bar has shit loads of reinforcments!
Wouldnt like to try it though

Another factor is, I have two little cherubs... something with four
seats
if
I'm spending the bulk of what the Passat fetches, is a prerequisite
really... hmm... unless I start using the Cav for family duties again
I
suppose.

Main thing at the mo, is I want something that's good fun to thrash
the
crap
out of round twisties, and the VTS seems ideal. :-)

Swift GTi is fun on a budget, but it wont be as fast as a VTS obviously.
Why not a 205 GTi? Miles cheaper than the VTS and equally (if not more)
fun.

Hmm... maybe.

They're all tending to be a bit ropey now, unless you pay top money for
one... at least from what I've seen of the few I looked at last time I
was
considering getting one.

If you wanted a proper nice one, you could spend say £1k I reckon, but in
a years time, as long as you've kept it uptogether you could probably get
that again. A Saxo/106 probably still has a bit of depreciation left to
go.

Yes, 205 any day. More fun, more communicative, none of this emissions crap
and you'll lose much, much less in depreciation.

One of the URCMers had a VTS and had the problem!

Didnt the later cars have emission crap (ie a cat on the 1.9s) and lost a
bit of power (8bhp).
