Default Mobility Conversion - 05-14-2007 , 07:22 AM

Hi, I am trying to get information on converting my car to have wheel chair
access. There are many companys out there doing these conversions, however I
intend to do the entire conversion myself and need help with all the
technical information, fllor plans, ramps, etc.
Can anyone assist, where can I find this information.

Thanks

You won't because all these companies have their own bespoke designs.

There's a hell of a lot of structural work involved in some of them.

Too right.

Mine for EG is taken directly from the factory in Canada to a plant in
Michigan where they remove engine exhaust, suspension at both ends, most of
the interior, and then they cut out the complete floor from engine to the
rear end.

Then they weld in a complete ne bespoke floor, 10 inches lower, rustproof,
repaint, and then fit extensions to the sliding doors as well as relocating
all the door bottom track and other workings.

Then they refit the inside using bespoke mouldings and carpeting etc. This
includes totally rewiring and repipeng most of the van and air con, fuel,
cables, exhaust, etc. Then they fit bespoke body mouldings to cover the
lowered floor outside. Thats before the thing has ramps, a computer thing in
the boot that controls the ramp, door opening, suspension kneeling, etc. It
has to not do it in the wrong order, not do it if someone pushes a button
while moving (or at the lights!) etc. Thats before you realise theres now
no room for a spare or a fuel tank which are also relocated. Trust me they
are a production line job with everything having been evolved over many
years to work properly and so that over the counter parts like exhausts,
looms, body panels, carpets, removable seating mountings and chair tie downs
are easily available...

Its no one off custom job.

Have a look at mine. http://www.optimabattery.co.uk/rollx/

Sve 20k and import a US left hand drive one...

My sis-in-laws Fiat Doblo is adapted to a similar level.

Yep. Not something you may want to tackle at home because there are no off
the shelf mouldings or interior panels and stuff. It would be more
expensive than buying one.
