Default the new car hunt continues - 04-20-2007 , 01:02 PM

On the hunt for a new taxi to replace the octavia,

Now deciding that I fancy something a wee bit nicer than an octavia I
thought i'd take a day to go look at motors, well what a waste of time,

first up was a paid of Vectras(An elite and a sri) 19 cdti's both on 56
plates, look good nice engine but the most god awful dash I've ever seen and
the elite was missing the nav cd but I couldnt face looking at that dash all
day. God its horrid

Next up was a 05 plate passat 1.9tdi nice car 9k miles but had the most
horrid smell of wee about it, dealer was aghast and offered to arrange a
test drive as soon as it was valeted but SWMBO had already decreed it a poor
mans audi,

Finally on the list was an A6 on a 56 plate, 2l Tdi 19 1/2k with only 12k on
the clock very nice loved the interior but uncertain whether 20k on an audi
a6 would be a wise investment,

so over to ocuk

spec me a taxi with a bit of grunt for less than 15k and under 2 years old

Buy the Audi and teach the kids to drive and have them out collecting
fares while you are in bed.

Whats wrong with the one you've got? Just add some 20"s, Neons and a
rover V8. It'll be fine.

Oh well never mind.

What's the point - you'll only ever use 1st and 5th gear anyway.

If they're the preferred choice of gears may I recommend an A6 V6 TDi. I
keep finding myself doing 40 in 6th - 1100 rpm...

In which case...

Have a look on ebay under the name peterincambs.
That is Peter Simpson the editor of Car Mechanics magazine.
He often has Rover 75 diesels for sale - has one on just now.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/STUNNING-2003-...mZ320106039866

His descriptions are spot on, his prices are very keen and a nicer bloke you
will never meet.
I bought a Mazda off him a couple of years back.
He is in Peterborough, but you get the train to the station and he picks you
up. It's a nice day out.

That would appear to be a bargain - I'd have been seriously tempted
myself if I were still running my own car.

I note that it doesn't have the usual 'pissed' front end that most later
models appear to have these days.
