Default New Impreza WRX - 12-01-2006 , 07:40 PM

Picked up the WRX today, Kwikfit said the brakes were perfectly OK - a
slight swirling on the front discs but should have plenty life left -
confirmed with a Subaru main dealer, virtually unheard of to replace the
discs on a 3 year old car with only 19.5k on the clock, but better safe than
sorry anyway.

Drove the car from Carlisle to Newcastle + a little blast around locally (85
miles) and my first impressions are:-

Fuel comsumption isn't as bad as I thought it would be, filled the tank with
Shell V Power when I picked it up and it's only slightly below the first
notch on the gauge.

Car is perfectly civilised when driven normally, clutch a bit heavy in town
traffic.

Fucking hell - once you hit about 4.5k the fucking turbo boost is
impressive, very impressive indeed!!

At the moment, having just got this car, I'm thinking - For normal road use,
do you actually need any more power? (I'll probably eat these words in 6
months time)

Anyway, let the Missus have a spin when I got it home and after she'd
stalled it twice and had a five minute run round the block she says "it's
not as fast as I thought it would be"

Fucking women.

Enjoy it. The fuel will stay on full for the first 150ks then start to drop
rapidly. The last 1/4 goes in no time. Must be the shape of the tank. Mine
is quick but after driving the STI I want one.

Heh, has she wound the revs up enough, or is she like mine, changing up far
too early. :-)

Well she is used to driving a Nissan Micra 1.0e, that could be the
problem...

Werl, you know what to do, passenger her, let her get into third on a
suitable road and tell her to floor it and leave the gear stick alone
till you tell her.

Perhaps. On the other hand, maintain the illusion..?

Yes, very tempted to do that - I dont think she's actually changed gear
above 2k rpm, as for actually putting the pedal to the floor....

Yes, I'll go with that, definately the safer option!!

Sounds reasonable, cars that go hard invariably stop hard.

At the moment, having just got this car, I'm thinking - For normal
road use, do you actually need any more power?

More power is a *want*, not a need

I fail to see the difference :-)

Come to think of it, managing to get 20K from a set of WRX front discs
either means some mpg-watching freak like me has used the car (so it'll be
all seized up like) or they're lying and these brakes have been on for just
a little bit.

For some people it's too tempting, though.

Heh, wait until she gets it on the open road.

What did you have before, incidentally ?

A (51) Vectra SRi 150, so as you see quite a difference in power.
The Vectra was OK, but at the end of the day was still a Vectra..

On a whim fancied something a little more exciting to drive!
