Default OT: Who is the best broadband provider ATM (not owned by Pipex) - 03-14-2007 , 03:46 PM

I've finally had it with BullShit Brokeband.
After some initial teething problems, they have been good for 2 years.
But, January, tried to regrade from 4meg to 8meg as it was now cheaper
than my current 4 meg.
Wanted to keep the same addons (static IP and 01/02 calls inclusive on
the Bulldog unbundled phone line).

The regrade was totally ignored.
End of February tried again.
Was told it would go through, but the calls package wasn't compatible
with my line (why? it has been for 2 years) and it would be added later
but I would need to pay for calls until then.
Also told my static would change (they don't know why either it just
does) but I can't see why it needs to for a line speed regrade.

It changed 1.30AM a day ago, but the speed hadn't changed. Oh well stil
cheaper. Then I discovered that it changed everytime I reconnected.

Phoned tech support and they say it is a CS issue, and put me through to
CS. CS tell me the billing on the account is ceased, was I leaving? No,
and about my static IP "I don't know about them that is a technical
support issue I'll put you through" ... to billing who put me back into
the IVR queue which ignores the fact you have pressed any buttons and
keeps repeating the message.

Eventually I get through to tech support again, who tell me the account
is set to dynamic, not the static I have email confirmation for, or the
static I have been using for 2 years. And they can't deal with that as
it isn't a fault, and put me back through to CS.

Now CS tell me that they can't do anything about the static/dynamic
issue as they are having technical troubles themselves, and I should
call them in a week to ask again. A week with my website down. A week
without email. I week where I can't listen to the music I want through
my stream. A fucking joke.

So, who is good, who is fast, who doesn't fuck up every stage in the
process.
1) Must offer a static IP.
2) Must actually be able to provide a service, not just a TV advert and
a call centre.
3) Home user, not business user priced.
4) Not owned by Pipex
5) Not a resller for Netservices.

I don't mind about unbundling, but it means I can't use any of the
availability checkers. As my line isn't classified as a BT line, they
can't tell me what speed I should be able to have.

I wouldn't mind going back to BT to get adsl2 from BeThere, but I can't
tell if I can get it.

Fucked off with the useless cock sucking menu driven droning excuse
monkeys on the phone.

I use Demon. It's never broken. £25 a month home office something with
static IP, 8mb unlimited and lower contention than the home one (dunno what
that means).

Sounds cool. I still need to see if Bullshit can't sort out the fiasco.
I don't fancy bailiffs knocking in my door, because Bulldog forgot to
turn off billing after I left, because I left when they screwed up my
account.

i've been with pipex ever since i went broadband which was err 2001/2002
can't remember. before they went all 'hoff' and started wank ads on the
telly.
that aside i've had 1 problem with the line which the tech support guy
narrowed down to an upgrade issue (when they knocked me up to 1mb from 512k)
he did a reset his end told me to try again in 10mins and even called to see
if it had came back up!

tried adslguide.org?

Yeah and that pretty much sums up that the broadband market is fucked
(remember what job I used to do).
The guys who give it free can't cope with all the new customers, and the
guys who charge don't have enough customers to give a fuck.

Demon have crap CS, they also tie you in to 1 year contracts, I would
suggest nildram or zen, 1 month rolling contracts, PAYG broadband if your
not a heavy downloader.

Why are 12 month contracts a problem? The only experience I'd have with the
CS are when they set it up, which was perfect. How long were you with them
for?

Based on setting up ADSL services on a daily bases, Demon are going down
hill fast, Zen are*totally incompetent, BT are a useless shower of
bastards, my money*currently is on Easynet (tho not cheap) or Eclipse,
(Eclipse will also give you two static IP's)

Bollocks. Our SDSL line has been down for a total of 83 hours in the last 3
months. That's a business line too with SLA's.

If with AAISP http://aa.nu/adsl/ and have been very happy with them. I
have Max-1 Standard Which gives me 1GB download 8am to 6pm Weekdays and
totally unlimited outside those peak hours, only downloads count
towards usage. They give fixed IPs, as many as you want. Their hosting
is very basic though if you want a web site with them, no databases but
you can run Perl.

On Max-1 I would pay for any extra usage in peak times at œ5 per gig
and am not allowed to carry over unused usage. However with the higher
packages you can carry over under/over usage so if you have Max-3 for
example and you overuse it one month it may be covered by your previous
month underusage or you may be able to wipe it out in the next month.

Standard gives 400k upload and premium gives 800k and a lower
contention ratio. They do get problems but they tell us about them and
do hold their hand up when they have caused it. They also monitor the
line and have been known to have BT fixing a fault before the customer
knows there is a problem.
