Not even trying. I got the XJR down to 3mpg.

:-O

That's horrendous, even if you're loaded and can afford to wipe your arse
with £50 notes.

Humm, what's the damage when you're driving relatively sedately???

Really?

I had a 1.8 V~TEC Civic as a loaner while the garage replaced the coil
pack and leads on the Exploder. The Civic got tedious after 60 miles.
It's not the fact that it can be revved to 8k that gets tedious it's the
fact that it has to be revved to 8k to make any progress.

I'd imagine that, with the Lexus being Japanese and all that, it has all
the character of a sewing maching, despite a silly redline.
A girl I know has an old Civic VTEC something or other, it's the Rover
416 shape thing and has a powerflow exhaust on it. Even though it's got
absolutely fuck all torque it is quite good fun to drive, and the engine
is bloody smooth. It's about 200 metric fuckloads lighter than an IS200
though, it's so full of rot it probably weighs about 750 kg...

I had a MK1 Civic Type-R as a company car for about 8 months back in
2003. It was fun for about a month, driving it like a tit , redlining
it everywhere and it sounded great. Then it began to get quite
tedious, because you couldn't make decent progress in it if you
weren't caning it. I managed to foist it off on someone else and spent
the rest of the time there driving a Golf GTDiesel. It was so much
better for everyday driving.

I can't stand it any more! I'd much rather be daily-driving an E63AMG
even though it needs 7000 rpm on the clock to feel fast, or an M5, or an
M3. We drive diesels because we're all too skint / tight to pay for big
fuel bills. They are in no way any better to drive.

*BINGO*.

Normally I have to say that.

They went rather well for a 1300, and were infinitely better
reliability wise than the Rover S-Series engined 216 models.

The main issue with either was rot.
Yeah, kwik fit jacked straight through mine...

LOL... I did that once to an Austin Maxi I owned for all of about three
weeks, at which point it did me a favour and threw a rod.

And the KV6... well....
Remind us all again how low you used to get the MPG down to on that.
;-)
12, 13 maybe.

Jesus... I've never got anything down that low.

Think the worst I've had was an XR4x4 2.9i, which I got down to 15mpg by
caning it mercilessly round some twisties.

Heh, I used to get more than that out of my twin turbo 2.9 4x4.

I don't manage anything near that good in the Rangie.

To be fair, that's not unlike your 156 - only it's RWD, so an
awesome real mans car or something.

:-)

Slower than my 156.... even though I have a Sillyspeed box ;-)

Hmm, speed is relative...
Not when the main use is on a packed daily commute.

You live / work in the relative arse end of nowhere with fairly quiet roads,
IIRC.

That one I agree with... although Lexus parts won't be cheap when it does
need money thrown at it.

I don't think it's a fixation at all... this is a genuinely bad choice of
car given the financial circumstances of the OP, and what it's going to be
used for.

It's an age thing.
It's well know that your acceptable rev limit for a car is inversely
proportionate to your age.

I look forward to the day that 2,000rpm becomes unnacceptably high.
Look forward just as much to 11,000rpm out of the engine in the Sylva as
well right enough...
My rev limit seems to be increasing as I get older.

Used to like NA Diesels, then got a Clarton, learned to love >4000rpm
and then drove my BX GTi like I stole it _everywhere_. A day the MX-5
doesn't hit the hard 7250rpm limiter is a day wasted and my work now
sees me dealing with engines which rev into the tens of thousands.

Love it.

Original wedge shaped 400 or the later 'bubble' shaped one?

If the former, it'll be a B16, the latter, almost certainly a B18.

The thing was, it was fucking boring to drive.

I've tailed a twin turbo one before, or should I say, I tried to tail a twin
turbo one before - it was bloody rapid and pissed off into the distance at
great speed.

Hardly surprising really. ;-)

This Carl fixation you have looks unhealthy, man.

I'm off to start a new thread:
'Cars that SteveH chooses are shit'

Heh.

The whole saga went on almost as long as my company car saga....
Time itself isn't /that/ long.

Did you honestly buy your Sportwagon with your head? You probably
