The thing is, there's sheds that work and sheds that don't. You've
bought one that largely doesn't.

What is your evidence for that?
The list of 'issues' in the ebay listing is a bit of a hint.

This is true, at the end of the day, if it is a complete shed, it was

£560 and it'll eBay for £500 all day long heh.

Possibly - although I'm not sure how many mugs will spend 500 quid on an
MOT fail ;-)

Also, nearly 600 quid buys a whole host of decent MOTd, working, normal
cars - even diesel ones with aircon.....
The word "normal" in your post is where your argument falls down .For Carl
and others including myself
"normal" cars = very boring..:-). I'm suffering driving a Xantia with power
everything and climate at the moment. I really need to get something daft
and useable as a daily driver soon.

Good luck with the Rangie Carl. You mad bastard ;-)

Thank you and Yay, if it falls on it's arse and cost as much as I paid
for it to pass the MOT, I fucked up. But it will still be a £1k fuckup
with a years MOT, V8, and LPG.

Still hardly a silly ammount.

*AIRCON NOT WORKING, SUSPECT IT NEEDS A REGAS ?*
Hardly an essential, if I can fix it, Bonus.
For a daily driver, given the kind of roads you use, I'd mark air-con as
an essential.

Really!?

You have strange ideas. They're a big deal to me, 'cos it means I need
to spend money and time on it ASAP.

Switch, motor or earth, not rocket science. And let's face it, if you
are mainly using it for offroad trips, do you car that you can't open
the window over a vacant seat when the sunroof opens?
Great. So it's been a neglected off-road hack, then?

No reason to find it acceptable. More expense and time.

You telling me, in the Sub £1k banger category, any of those things

Erm, yes, given that there are loads of sub-£1k bangers with all those
things working.

Erm, point of order here.....

1. The 75 is a 3rd car in the household. It's a toy and an appreciating
classic.

2. I can afford to splurge £2k on making my toy look pretty.

3. It was a reliable daily driver for 3 years before I put it into
semi-retirement. Doesn't have aircon, but all the windows work, as does
the ignition system.

I mis-read that, no leccy rear windows wouldn't bother me, people in the

They'd bother you if you were sat in a hot car and needed some airflow
through it.

Well the front windows still work. But I need aircon these days anyway,
I've gone soft heh. Or a ragtop would be a suitable compromise hehe.
When I went from the Passat with climate to the Marea without even
aircon, I found the best way to get decent airflow without drowning out
the stereo was to tilt the sunroof and open the rear windows a tad.

Didn't really notice the lack of aircon on open roads by doing that.

When the temps. crawled into the 30s last summer, I remember sitting in
traffic with all windows and the sunroof open to try and keep it cool.

Never again will I buy a car without aircon as a daily driver.

Wel, yes. But if you need something that'll work every day and get you
to and from work and have fuck-all cash to spend, you want 'normal'.
Well, ish, anyway.

I'll get them working. BL switches are notorious for gumming up,
and dust and crap crap gets into the motors turning the grease to
custard. You can flush the switches with contact cleaner and get
them working most times, and the motors can be opened and the
custard removed and then regrease them. Then they turn again.

Again, if it was something that simple, wouldn't the previous owner
have done it already?

You say that, but a lot of people really can't be arsed with fixing
all the niggly little faults when they're selling a car on. For a
whole variety of reasons. I've been in the position with a few cars
I've sold where a few things would have been fairly simple to solve,
just that I really couldn't be arsed.

Works in a lot of cases, but the bloke selling that appears to be some
sort of enthusiast and has obviously done a fair bit of spannering on
that car, so it doesn't make sense that half hour jobs haven't been
done.
As someone who's actually owned a few Rangies I can disagree wholeheartedly
with that. When you own a Rangie you tend to spend 90% of tinkering time on
important stuff, the trim isn't an issue. Switches are easy to fix so you
leave them til last if they're only the rear windows anyway - you don't tend
to drive them from the back seats. If it's the winder mechanism / motor
that's not that much more awkward to change and they only cost about £10
from a decent breaker.

If you're half way up a mountain you're much more likely to be thinking "I'm
glad I checked the swivels for oil" than "I'm so glad I can open my rear
windows".

The aircon will more than likely just be low gas. Out of the four AC
equipped Rangies I've owned not one has had a knackered compressor. More
likely than not it's the gas - the low pressure switch tends to be over
sensitive to the gas level.

I'd rather have one like Carls that's been mechanically maintained than one
with loads of working gubbins and fucked mechanicals.

You've obviously never experienced the airflow a Range Rover ventilation
system can provide. They're designed to survive the desert *without AC*,
ffs.

This isn't a vehicle thats designed to just carry reps up motorways y'know.
It'll climb mountains, cross deserts and is good on the motorway as well.
