I'm thinking about treating myself to a new toy sometime in the next 6
months as I want to try and get in at least one proper silly car whilst
there's only 2 people in my family!!

So, I'm opening the floor to ideas. However there are some conditions:
1. Price must be no more than £7k, ideally nearer £6k (or less
obviously).
2. It should hold it's value pretty well as I don't want to lose too
much money over say 2 years of ownership.
3. It needs to be quick. Say 0-60mph in <6s (or have some pretty good
attribute that makes up for it not acheiving this)
4. Needs a roof as it probably wont be garaged (dependant on what
happens with other cars).

And finally, not an absolute definite condition, but ideally it should be
RWD.

MG ZT-T 260. It's what I'd buy if I had a spare £7k.

Good shout, but I can see that losing too much money. Plus I guess it's in
the uber expensive tax bracket, which isn't the end of the world, but if
possible I'd like to avoid it by going for something older. Willd efinitely
look into it though

That's about it really. I don't mind if it's not mint, as long as the
mechanicals are good and it scrubs up ok. Might even consider some sort
of minor project.

Top of my list is a TVR Chimaera 4.0 and to be honest it'll have to be
something pretty special to lure me away from one of these. The only
thing that puts me off is their bad rep, but I wont be doing many miles
so if I buy one in good nick hopefully it'll stay that way. Plus I'm
pretty handy with a spanner (and a multimeter...) and the SD1s have
taught me about V8s so hopefully I'd be ok.

Other cars I've thought about is a mk1 MR2 Supercharger (and save lots of
money), Chevvy Camaro (dunno what parts are like to get hold of) or a
Clio V6 (probably being a bit too optimistic here though).

So, any other suggestions?

Westfield.

I added in 'number 4' to exclude these

I'd love one, but I'd also need more garage space to store it, and chances
are the Vitesse will be tucked away in my wee single garage. I will save
one of these for later in life

Re: Clio V6, I believe Dan was of the opinion that a 2.0 16V one of the
172, 182 or 197 variety is at least as quick, more fun and much less
expensive to break (not that you plan to break it of course).

Crazyness is a factor though of course. Clio V6 fulfills that one a
goodly bit.

Exactly. Hot hatches just aren't crazy enough for this idea

That's quite cool, but maybe not silly enough - it's just a Sierra afterall.
Anyway, I'm not buying now, it'll probably be early next year unless
something very special comes up in the meantime.

How about a Volvo 340/360 with cut springs and lowering blocks, with a
2.3 turbo?

Meh, maybe one day, but they've become a bit chavtastic now.

Besides it's not exactly a Chimaera

No it isn't.

It will be much reliable, less likely to turn to splinters in a crash,
and have the potential for far greater power without grenading
