"For it looking so scruffy, I haven't seen one look so nice underneath
for ages, it has had a fair bit of welding and all the
engine/transmission and body mounts have all been changed, drives nice
and tight for such a big lift too".

Yay, looks like a got a bargain, now to get an LPG flap opener and a
cheap stereo.

I know, it feels nice to have bought a bargain that needs some fettling,
and not shares in a welding wire company.

So the rotten inner wings, cracked diff. casing and complete inability
to get it to run properly on LPG are just minor 'fettling' jobs, then?

It's got an MOT. The car cost next to fuck all, Carl took a risk on
buying it with next to no ticket, but I think it's paid off in Land
Rover ownership terms.

I think you're overestimating the difficulty level of fucking about
underneath a Range Rover Classic. A dyslexic monkey armed with some
imperial spanners, a screwdriver, hammer and 3 bits of string can fix
one. Remember that automotive design in the 1950s and 60s was not what
we might call sophisticated.

But whilst the LPG system is fucked, it's hardly meeting the original
buying criteria.

I think the MOT station should be named and shamed ;-)

Heh, but idle on LPG isn't part of the MOT.

I know the MOT station concerned, I also know the tester concerned and he
spoke to me today about Carls Rangie and was very complementary indeed about
it.

He's also someone who worked on military Land Rovers for more than a few
years and knows what to look for on Land / Range Rovers.

As for the LPG system, an MOT tester can only test a dual fuel vehicle on
the fuel system it is presented for test on. If Carl presented his on petrol
then that is all it could be tested on, as I personally have seen how clean
Carls Rangie runs on petrol I'm not surprised it passed at all.

I don't know if there's a dual fuel - Petrol / Sour grapes emissions test
for Alfas though :-p
