I have a 1997 Malibu with 72,0000 miles. I am hearing a roaring noise from the front end around 35-45 mph and gets louder the faster I go. Has anyone had this problem? It sounds like a possible wheel bearing or a possible transmission problem ? ouch! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Don't know what it is, but if it's a moving part and making that kind |

We've got our '97 Malibu going to see our mechanic next Monday. He said it is most likely a wheel bearing given the age and miles of the car. We're lucky to have a great mechanic that we've been using for almost 20 years. He'll find the problem and also give a basic going over looking for anything else that could be coming up with the car. A friend of mine has a '98 malibu with 231,000 miles on it. It had a noise similar to the one described and it was a bad wheel bearing in the right front. |

Melissa Actually one of the things I have seen cause a noise like this is tire wear on the front tires. I have had several cars do this (including my 03 Malibu) and sometimes it would go away when I rotated the tires, and sometimes I had to put up with it until I replaced the tires. |
