Default 1998 Malibu Rear brakes - 06-13-2007 , 04:24 PM

Has anyone replaced the rear brake shoes on their 1998 Malibu by themselves?
The reason I ask, I just picked up a set of shoes and a spring kit and plan
to do it myself this weekend. Imagine the look on my face when I opened the
spring kit box and there are two large "horseshoe" (that's what they look
like) springs and two smaller normal springs. Obviously not what I was
expecting, but I'm hoping this isn't going to be too complicated to install
when I tear my rear brakes apart.

Any hints or diagrams that show how the bigger springs are installed? Is
there a special tool needed to put these on, or are they easy to install? I
have the normal brake spring pliers and tool to remove the shoe springs, but
I'm not even sure if I'm gonna need them now.

Thanks,
Sharky

Do one wheel at a time and use the completely assembled wheel (if you need
to) as a model of how they should look.
