My husband is in the process of replacing the Ignition key cylinder lock on our 1999 Malibu because we could not turn the key from the OFF position (using any of the four keys that have always worked.) We are using ACDelco Part # D1474D (GM 12458191.) He has fixed the replacement lock cylinder to match the original key and will be reinstalling it tonight. We do not fully understand how the Passlock anti-theft feature is (or is not) impacted by this replacement. If we are replacing the lock (with the outer housing ... but not the ignition switch) and are using the original key, should we anticipate a Passlock issue? If there is a Passlock issue, how would we resolve it? |

The Passlock sensor is in the keylock outer housing, it's what the wires plug into. A magnet on the lock cylinder is what triggers the sensor. You will have to do a learn procedure for the car to learn the new keylock sensor in the housing so it will start. Passlock system turns off the fuel injectors. The procedure is.... Try to start, it will crank but not fire. Release the key but leave it in the ON position. The security light will be on. After 10 min. the security light will go OFF. Turn OFF the ignition for 5 seconds then try to start engine again. Release the key leaving it in the ON position again for the 10 min. cycle. A cold one can be drank during the waiting period (hehehehe) Book says 3 times or 30 min. until the Security light doesn't come on and the car starts. Some learn in 2 tries, some in 4. I have 2 Malibu's in the family fleet and have had them do both.
