Default 2001 Malibu Climate Control - 01-21-2006 , 05:39 PM

My 2001 Malibu has no output when the blower is on the first 2 settings.
There is no air moving through the vents, nor is there any noise. I
posted this on another site, and they recommended changing the resistor on
the blower, or perhaps cleaning the switch.

Additionally, my AC goes on and off periodically, especially when I'm in
traffic. I don't think this is to prevent motor overheating, as sometimes
it's when I first start the car and the temp is still on Cold.

Any help or advice is much appreciated!

Those are both common problems in Maliboo-hoos. The fan not running
in position 1 or 2 is a failed resistor block and the DIY fix has been
posted many times in this group. Try this link;

The AC switching on/off is another problem that usually only occurs
when it is hot and humid, usually when you need the AC most. The fix
can another DIY. I still need to do this one myself. Go to this link;

Have fun!

I did this operation a month or so ago. The new resister was around $2
from the dealer. Please note that it's an absolute pain in the a$$ t
get one of those bolts out from the bad resistor, but it can eventuall
be done--so keep trying.
After I did mine, 1 and 2 started working again, but now 5 doesn'
work--which I can live with because I don't use 5 much anyway. But
would be interested to know if 5 works on yours when you get it done

Duane,

Thanks for the advice. I'll try to attempt both of the fixes in the next
few weeks. I'll let you know how it goes and if there is any shortcuts,
etc. involved in the AC switch cleaning.

Thanks a lot!
