Default 98 malibu 3.1 abs light stays on - 06-11-2006 , 11:30 PM

134k miles. replaced pax side hub assembly (AT) 95k (DOT) Manual brakes are fine.
5secs after ign on 3x chime and abs light illuminates& stays on.
Inspected, cleaned and reset all connections to both front hubs, hydraulic
modulator under battery tray, and electronic brake control module. Light
remains on.Fuse cheked ok. Thought I heard a click at the modulator when
key is turned on. Any tests I can do or ideas? Maybe other hub is on its
way out? thanks

Very common problem, abs module in the wheel bearing assembly has
possibly went out or wires got broken, If that is what is wrong,
expect to pay upwards of 500 for both sides at a non-dealer garage,
upwards 800 at dealer, on ebay, you can get a non-gm hub and abs
assembly for 135 (warrentied) and do it yourself. Might also be your a
sticking caliper! Anyway, you do not have ABS now, your tires will
lock up!

IS VEHICLE MAKING LOUD RUMBLING NOISE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IF IT IS TRY
TURNING THE STEERING FROM SIDE TO SIDE AND SEE IF THE NOISE GOES AWAY.IF
THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED TO THE RIGHT AND NOISE IS THERE IT'S 90
PERCENT IT'S THE LEFT HUB BEARING , IF THE WHEEL IS TURNED TO THE LEFT AND
THE NOISE IS THERE IT'S THE RIGHT BEARING. HOPE THIS HELPS OR YOU COULD
ALWAYS HAVE IT SCANNED IF YOU GET CODES FOR OPEN OR SHORTED TO GROUND JUST
REPLACE THE BEARING.HOPE THIS WILL HELP
