if the theft light is flashing, turn the key to on position for 10
minutes or so until the theft light stops flashing, turn key to off
position, and restart car, if that doesn't work, maybe your key is bad,
do you have a key with a chip on it?

I have done this way dozens of times without drainging my battery.
This is a way to reset the anti theft system, if you take the key out,
it won't reset teh system, do a search for it, trust me on this
subject, I have a 2001 with the anti theft system activating. So abe,
your the bozo.

Wrong advice you bozo. Do NOT turn the key to on position for 10
minutes, that will only drain your battery. Instead, take the key out
until the theft light stops flashing, then try again. If the problem
occurs again and again, it could either be the chip in your key has
gone bad, or the sensor in the ignition has gone bad. Either of these
requires contacting a Chevy dealer to fix.

www.malibuclub.ca and there is information from fixing common
issues(like the anti theft system) and places to show off your car.

YES! try key on 10 min., key off, then try to start. i find this useful on
MANY GM theft system faults......BTW; if 10 mins. with key on kills your
battery, you need a new battery anyway...............kjun

You guys are all wrong. The starter would not engage if the theft-system
was preventing the car from starting. It disables the starter and all you'd
be allowed to do is turn the key and not hear anything from the engine.

actually, the starter does engage, it just cranks and cranks, take it
from someone who has this issue atleast once a week.

well I've had this problem with my 99 Monte Carlo, and the starter does
not engage. I'd turn the key, and it doesn't do anything except flash
idiot lights at you on the dash board. I also asked about a problem I
was having with my car and no one responded. think someone can help?
