Default 99 malibu not starting - 11-07-2005 , 08:52 PM

i have a 99 malibu. i bought it [well, i'm buying it] from a
dealership, which is called jd byrider. in indiana, don't get a car
from there because they won't work with you on anything, anyway. i had
the car for about a week before the gas gauge stopped working, about a
month before the cd player/blower moter stopped working, then i had
transmission problems with it,
and now, it won't start.
i realise that malibu's have a cutesy thing where the built in
anti-theft stops them from running about 9 out of 10 times you start
it. you have to wait 10 to 15 minutes, and try again.
this, i'm used to. recently, the car just does not start. i turns over,
but nothing. in between the times that it does nothing, the anti theft
light comes on, and goes off, but after it completely not starting, the
light isn't on so i assume it isn't that , that is doing it.
In order to start the car now, i have to pump and FLOOR the gas pedal
everytime, timing it right, otherwise, i get nothing. I took it to a
car repair place, and they said that the problem could not be
duplicated. i went to take it home, and i could not get it to start.
my mother drives a 99 malibu, and in order to start it, you just turn
the key.
I told them that it made sense you would have to do that for mine, but
it does not work.
I've replaced the battery because i was having problems with my gauges
spiking at random times, and figured tha twould help the no start
problem, but to no aviail, it hasn't.
i'm a college student working a full time waitressing job to pay 350
dollars a month for the worst car i've ever had in my life.
Does anyone have any sort of idea what's going on?

The part about " Random Guage Spiking " bothers me, and makes me
think Alternator. When you say " No start " Do you mean Cranks good,
engine doesn't fire, or no cranking at all ? I'm a " bug " on grounds,
having them the culprit too many times. Can't go wrong beefing up
grounds, good bank for small bucks. Run battery Ground cable direct to
engine block, add jumper cable from block to frame rail type device.

Run sturdy jumpers from " Frame Rail " to cowl, and fenders
containing electronic boxes. If you question the need to do this,
hook up a long jumper to your VOM, and measure voltage drop at grounds
all over car. Measure voltage at Neg battery terminal, and again at
rear bumper. Work backwards to find bad grounds.
