This is another in the long list of common Malibu failures. It is
probably a bad blower resistor assembly.

The resisrors are problems on all chevy's not just the malibu...But
eventually all speeds but high will work....Due to the system bypassses
the resister when on high....

I had the same thing happen. It was the resistor control module located
just under the passenger side dash, right behind the glove box. It cost me
$23.00 to replace. It's not a standard part, but you can get it from the
dealer.

I need to do the one on my daughters 00 I just purchased. The
(resistor control module for the blower to operate in 1 and 2 speed)
is it easily located behind the the passenger glove box? or should I
just have the dealer do it? He gave me $50 off the car for the blower
fan problem so Id like to buy the switch for $20 and do it my self.
Thanks for your help...

Yeah, if you've got about 6 knuckles per finger and don't mind losing skin
:-)
My kids know lots of new words now!

Seriously, you can do it. Much easier if you have "small" hands. I've got
big paws.
It isn't the only problem if you are having AC issues though. The panel will
need to
be changed too.

i had the same problem last year

if you still have a warranty on the car bring it to the dealership
service dept and they will replace the switch and something in the
fan.
mine was fixed and it has been fine ever since
