I recently rented Chevy Cobalt. On the last day Check Oil light went up in the middle of the trip and soon after engine stalled. It was making very unusual shooting noise right before breakdown. Car got towed. Now rental car company claims that I damaged the undercarriage of the car. Radiator cracked at lower radiator support, no compression in all cylinders. And wants me to pay ~$4000 for engine and radiator repairs. My questions are: can undercarriage damage really cause radiator crack and engine stall? And if this is the realistic amount 4K to repair such damage? Also is it reasonable to argue that some previous renter caused the damage and only actual breakdown occured during my rent? I had it only for 11 days. Jerry |
