Default EGR - Code P1404 - 2 quick questions. - 05-01-2006 , 07:36 PM

Chevy Malibu 2001 - 3.1 V6 - 103,000+ miles

My check engine light came on about 5 days after I got the spark plugs
replaced at GMGOODWRENCH (I'm sure it's not connected though). I went
to Autozone and they pulled P1404, which according to their database
says: IAT - B Circuit Malfunction / EGR Temperature sensor circuit.

Question 1:
Is there something obvious I could check myself, like wiring, fuses or
something (I don't actually know where my EGR valve is in my engine,
I'm not a mechanic, I know what it does though) So if there something I
could check for myself I'd appreciate a pointer.

Question 2:
The nice people at Autozone told me: "I can't clear the code, it's
against the law", fwiw, I'm in Oregon. Is there any chance that it
would be illegal for them to clear the code or is that complete BS. I
could buy a cheap scanner tool thringy and do it myself (would not do
me any good if the part is really bad though) just a thought.

Thanks!

Someone just worked on your car and something else happened.
Take it back and let them check it, maybe a wire got knocked loose when they
worked on it, you should have some sort of warranty.
