My 98 Malibu has been a very good car thus far. i bought it almost a year ago with 133000 and now its at about 140000. Drives great with no mechanical issues thus far (knock on wood), but there are a couple annoying issues. the biggest just happened today. My Fuel and Temperature Gauges just cut out at precisely the same time whilst I was stopped at an intersection. I turned off the car and restarted it to see if it would reset or something - no change. I suspected a fuse or a ground or something, so I looked in my manual at the fuse diagrams but i didn't see anything pertaining to the console gauges. I feel like it should be a quick fix, but I can only hope. I'm in high school, so I can't afford to have a dealer even look at the damn thing, but my dad is car-handy if we know the problem. Does anyone know the solution? Also, my fan speed control on the climate control panel only works at speeds 3,4,5. I read in this group's post that its a cheap, easy fix, but never says what it is. Any knowledge about this would be helpful. thnx -phil |

Here's directions to replace it: http://www.malibu02.netfirms.com/resistwalk.htm Regards, John Great article! But.... |

It should be a cheap and easy fix, but I have not done one on a malibu before. Likewise, the problem with the blower motor sounds like a resistor issue. Some of the malibu mechanics can add to this.... |
