I have a 99 Malibu...it was in the shop for this in June of 2001. The
coolant leaks into the oil system. They have to clean out the entire
system and replace the intake gasket. GM has been having this intake
gasket problem on their 3.1 liter engines since 1988 and refuse to
correct the problem or issue any recalls. Check out this site
http://www.nhtsa.gov/, believe me...that's not the only problem you'll
have with the Malibu...thats only the beginning. The people at the
dealer in the service dept know me by name..that's how often I've been
there!! I only have 45,000 miles on mine and all my problems started
at 9,000 miles. I'm looking into Lemon laws right now. Good
luck...you'll need it.
