Default Noise in brakes - 05-16-2005 , 09:36 AM

First of all thank you all for your information on the possessed car.

One thing I forgot to mention is that there is also a noise in brakes,
at least I think it’s the brakes, it happens mostly when you slow
down. It’s kind of a squealing noise. We changed the brake pads and
checked the rotors and they are fine. We checked those little metal
tabs on the brake shoes and bent them back some. Can’t think of
anything else to look at. Any ideas?

I'm wondering about anti-rattle clips and brake pad dampening material.
Also, it's not a great idea to bend the wear indicator back so it won't
function. How do you know the rotors are fine? Maybe there are hard
spots. Maybe the shoes are not aggressive enough to bite into them. And
if the problem happens "mostly when you slow down", but at other times
too, perhaps there is something else wrong. But I think you are on the
right track by going over the brakes and doing a little better job.
Pads alone does not constitute a complete brake job.

Yes I realize pads alone do not make a complete brake job. Because
where I work and where I live are both long, steep hills, I wear out
brake pads fast and change them frequently. We put new rotors on less
than 6 months ago. My mechanic was the one who told us to bend the
wear indicators. The noise is there when I’m driving as well. Thanks
for your suggestions, I will have it checked further.

I had the same issue when I replaced my pads. I put on a better set of
pads, and the noise disappeared. Same car year, same model. Hope this
helps.
