Default Question about lighter socket - 03-23-2006 , 06:17 PM

i have a bluetooth car kit that runs from the lighter socket or the other
socket that is in my 2003 Malibu ,, my question is and it may sound stupid
,,but if i have this plugged into my lighter will it drain the battery?? Or
is it best to use this plugged into the accessory plug?? Or will it drain
the battery??

Thanks ,, Gord

My 2001 has an anti-drain feature on the electrical system. It cuts power
after 20 minutes, or when the battery gets to a pre-set drain point. Pain in
the arse, actually, since I leave my satellite radio powered to broadcast
into the house with its built-in fm transmitter. Had to wire it directly to
the battery to avoid this. Check your manual, it's in mine. If in doubt,
contact your GM dealer with your VIN in hand.

Cheers

thanks for the info ,, i now remember seeing something about this in the
manual ,, i'll have to dig it out and read it over again ,,, i've had my
bluetooth headset plugged into the outlet to charge it now for over the
last few weeks ,, with no problems ,, but i've now got an bluetooth
handsfree car kit and i have the option of leaving it in the outlet or
unplugging it all the time ,, but would prefer not to have to plug it in
every time ,, to leave it in place makes it more convenient.

Not having to always unplug would be a good idea, because I can tell you
that both sockets are not mounted to withstand much in the way of constant
use.
