First of all you can check your brake pads. Usually they squeel from worn out brake pads. Another cause is cheap break pads. For some reason, the Malibus are stubborn about the brakes and I had a squeal with cheap brake pads. I then put on ceramics and the little spacer peices that hold the pad on and the squeel went away. You can also check your brake fluid. |

Brake pads are new. Brake fluid is good. GM dealer put new pads on. It's not a squeal sound like the brake indicator makes when it rubs against the rotor. It's a sqeeking sound like two peaces of wood being rubbed together. The happens when the car is not moving and I press the brake pedal down. It could happen when I am moving but the road noise is greater. |

Have you checked your calipers??? Sometimes they go bad and create a squeeking noise when you depress your brake pedal. |

I am going to try and lube the pad guide surfaces and see if that solves it. Only other thing I can think of is a seized piston in the caliper. Brake performace seems uniform on both front brakes so i don't think it's the pistons. Any other tips? The squeeking sound happens no matter how hard i step on the brake pedal. |

If you get your car up under a lift, you can spray some lubricant along each part of the brake that you press. Can you tell me where the sound is coming from? If it kinda sounds under your dash, then it might be part of the actual brake pedal or something that leads up to it. Have someone press the break and you move around your vehicle and listen. Try to pinpoint the sound. |

Ok. I watered down the calibers. Sound is not from the calipers! It's from under the dash or engine compartment. I can feel friction when I press on the pedal where the squeeking is coming from. Something in the linkage of the pedal or under the hood. What components are there leading to the power brake booster so I can check? I also soaked down the engine bay in water and I still get squeeking. There must be something with a covering rubbing on something else but I am not familiar with brake linkage components that much. Thanks for you help thusfar!. |

My malibu is making a squeak noise when I take my foot off of the depressed pedal but only when the pedal comes up, not when I push it down. |
