I used to have a 2003 Malibu LS with the 3.1 V6.

o Around town I averaged 18MPG
o On the highway I averaged 31MPG

Don't ask me why there was such a big difference between the two with this
vehicle, but there was.

Thanks for the feedback and info; of course my Classic has the 2.2
four-cylinder Ecotech. Yeah, 18/31 is a huge disparity. Last time I saw
something like that was my ex father-in-law's Lincoln Continental,
which had similar readings bumped down 2 or 3 mpg for each. (He had the
V-6, which he hated; the next year Licoln switched to only V-8 on the
Continental, I believe.)

What vehicle did you get when you left Malibu-land?

2004 Sebring LXi 2.7 V6. I get 23 around town and 30 highway with it. It's
a similar performing car, although fewer "problems" with it.
