Default Shakey steering at high speeds when braking - 01-11-2007 , 12:25 AM

I have a 2005 Chevy Classic. Over the last few months, I’ve noticed
that when we are on the interstate driving and I have to put on my
brake to come off cruise control, or just to simply slow down, the
steering wheel shakes. I’ve had the tires and breaks checked and I am
told everything is fine. I keep them balanced and rotated every 6
months. My FIL mentioned some ball joint that could be cracked but
I’m clueless as to what this is. This morning I noticed that when I
took my daughter to school and made left turns that there was a little
resistance and a very light rubbing. Please help!

If the shaking occurs only when you are braking, then the first thing I
would look at would be the brake rotors. A warped rotor, even
slightly, will cause a vibration and shaking in the steering wheel when
you step on the brakes. If this is the case, the rotor will need to be
replaced with a new or good used one. This is an easy and cheap
(relatively speaking) fix. Does the vibration occur any time other
than when you step on the brakes?

My 2004 classic did that for a while and then stopped. I had 32 939 miles on
it when i got it in 05 and now i have 57050 on it. The wheel made a noise
and when we checked it the car needed power sterring fluid and when we
filled it the noise stopped. The brakes made a bad sound too, but that only
lasted a while too.
Check everything on the car and make sure everything is filled and once you
get miles on it the noises will stop.

I have an 06’ Malibu, and I have the same problem, the only difference
is that my Malibu does a squeeking sound too...

This must be the first car you've ever owned?

If it's an 06 why don't you take it to the dealer and ask them for a quote?
