There is a sound of air that rushes through the engine at odd times while the car is turned off. Can anyone tell me what this sound is? -- Posted using the http://www.autoforumz.com interface, at author's request Articles individually checked for conformance to usenet standards Topic URL: http://www.autoforumz.com/Chevy-Malibu-Sound-air-running-engine-turned-98-ftopict119562.html Visit Topic URL to contact author (reg. req'd). Could be a leaky check valve on the power brake booster. After you shut the motor off for a few minutes do you still have power assist on the brakes? If not then the check valve on the brake booster is leaking vacuum. -- John "anything you say can & will be misquoted & used against you" '01 FLHR ''Red" '04 MXZ 600ho '99 XC700 BRC mem "nbsobay81" <UseLinkToEmail (AT) AutoForumz (DOT) com> wrote in message news:1_580588_9dc5a391dbe24e833036cb60d3f0da16 (AT) autoforumz (DOT) com... could it be the radiator fans running. some cars will run the rad fans even with the ignition off. dont know the technical reason for this but im sure some engineer somewhere had a reason! Some cars run the fans after the ignition is off to reduce so-called "hot-soak", which is the rad and underhood temps continuing to rise after engine shutdown. This occurs on all cars, but can be problematic for vapor-lock on restart, or causing unnecessary radiator overflow on some vehicles.
