Default theft lock system - 01-03-2005 , 10:47 PM

I purchased Chevrolet Malibo 98 model. But, unfortunately there is no
manual/catalogue. Now, I am frequently facing problem with theft lock
system. While I try to ignite the engine, it frequently blinking for ten
minutes showing that the car is being stolen. After ten minutes the
blinking stop and only after that I can ignite the engine. How I can get
rid of this problem? Please clarify, if there is any solution.

Try disconnecting the ground (black) battery cable for 25 minutes. This will
reset the PCM and may fix your problem.

Hello Mike,
Thank you very much for providing me a good suggestion. I tried, as per
your suggestion. However, I would be happy if there is another alternate
suggestion? Can anyone help me? Happy New Year 2005 to all.

Going to need more information if that didn't work. Are you sure you left
the ground battery cable disconnected for a full 20-25 minutes?

Is the check engine light on? Any other MILs on? (Malfunction Indicator
Lights) If there is a check engine light, get the codes read & post the
codes here so I can tell you what they mean & we can work from there.
Autoparts stores like O'Reilly & Autozone will read the codes free of
charge.

When you turn your key on , but have not started the car yet. Your PCM (
computer ) is reprogramming itself. This can be caused by you replacing a part
or someone replacing a part ( maybe before you bought it.) and the computer is
trying to reprogram itself for the new part and not excepting it. or you might
have a body sensor somewhere on the body or engine that is working only part of
the time. Take the car to a shop that can read the error codes from the
computer and they should be able to tell you what sensor is acting up.

Good Luck

we have the same problem with or malibu...hope you don't have to be anywhere
in a hurry and wait the ten minutes every time it happens...seems to be the
only solution we have come up with.... someone put a car starter on it and I
think that is half the problem..the other half..it's a malibu.

I have this same problem. And would really like to get it fixed once
and for all. About every 6 months it happens and have had various
items fixed on it. most of the time it was fixed by replacing
ignition switch and cylinder. But this last time it was fixed with
replacing a computer piece (sorry I cant remember the name of it, and
have misplaced paperwork
) I will try removing the battery connector, do i do this with the
car running or not?

I had the same problem following the installation of a remote starter. The
installers of the starter said that this was common with Malibu's and the
fix was to add an older version of the "bypass module". That was done 6
months ago, with no problems.
