Things are good here as well. Busier'n shit at work, which is severely
depleting the time I can spend on my El Camino. I figure as soon as my
damn
grass stops growing and all the leaves have fallen I'll have an extra 4-6
hours a week on my hands and will spend that in my garage. Bought a new
165,000 BTU kerosene/diesel torpedo to keep me warm in there over the
winter. Going to look at an aluminum head 427 for her tomorrow, and going
to try to nab a 400 for my truck while I'm there. My buddy's, friend's,
sister's g-friend's Dad died a few months ago. He has/had a huge garage
full of old motors, rebuilds he never sold, transmissions, sheet metal,
etc.
She has until Thursday (two days from now) to empty the garage or the new
owner gets the whole shebang. Supposed to be a shitload of 283's, 350's,
400's, 427's and 454's, camel-hump heads out the whazoo, a few MOPAR
hemi's
and a pair of 58' Vettes in decent shape. Apparently she hasn't sold
anything yet. I'm hoping me and my buddy can buy the lot for a decent
price
and sell the motors off to friends. I'd take out a small loan to get my
hands on this lot.

WOW! I'd love to get my hands on some of that stuff!

I'm still trying to determine what the cause was of my brake problems. I
have a feeling it was a combination of master + combo valve and a shitload
of bad luck and broken <new> replacement parts. It was a surrealistic
nightmare that's for sure. Pedal still feels like shit but she stops
faster
than a Honduh Civic with the updated components.

Just be glad it's your own truck and not something you did for a friend or
relative. I think you'te right on the money as far as what the problems
were. When the junkyard stuff works better then the "rebuilt" stuff it's
time to change your parts supplier.

My wife's truck is due for a brake fluid flush and frankly I'm terrified
to
touch the damn thing. Hell, all I did to mine was tighten the rear
adjusters 3 clicks apiece and look what happened!

LMAO!! Don't worry about it, we all get a job that turns to shit from time
to time, you just have to learn from it and move on. Bye the way... an El
Camino with a hopped up 427 sounds like a shitload of fun. Keep us updated
on the progress.

Yeah me too. ;-( Frikkin lady blew off TWO appointments me and my buddy
had with her and when she finally agreed to meet us out there this afternoon
she had already sold the whole lot to some schmuck <aka lucky bastard> for
an insanely low cost. We were severely pissed.

The master cylinder I got was brann spankin' new from Advance Auto. The
OE's are aluminum, this puppy was steel, certainly not a rebuild passing for
new. As for the calipers and wheel cylinders that grenaded, AutoZone has
lost my business for anything besides spark plugs and performance friction
pads. Not a total loss, I found a kick-ass junkyard in the process that
only has trucks. I have never seen so many late-model Chev's in a boneyard
before.

I'm still trying to figure out if I want to go with MPFI or an 8-71 and dual
quads on the big-block. Would end up costing about the same aside from the
dyno time to tune the quads which can be nightmarish. First I need to get
the body all fixed up, the motor is last. I think I'm gunna yank the 350 in
the Elky, stroke it to 383 cubes and drop it in my truck this winter.

Take er' easy,

Dude, you used a TC that had been sitting outside in the RAIN to save
yourself $85. You really think I'd just give these things away? The plan
was to buy the lot, save the best for me and my bud, then rebuild the rest
and sell em' off. But, some schmuck bought the whole lot before we even got
out there to look so notta for anyone...............

I'll have a nice 305 up for grabs in 6 months or so............

Cheapest I found was $120
There is a big differance between "saving" and "absolutely not having in any
way size shape or form"

I read that.... too bad. Wasn't expecting a give-away, just not an all out
ass-rape.

What year?
Mainly: hoses/crap everywhere or fairly simple (will it go in my truck or my
malibu)
mah malibu threw a timing chain, as you probably know, and it had a 307. But
I'd rather put time/money into a chevelle.....

I guess it depends on what you want. A driver would be better off injected
but if you want white knuckled tire smoking acceleration you can't beat a
blower. I'd be tempted to go with a carb and nitrous myself for an everyday
driver.

The 305 is an 88' Block, 47K since a bottom-end rebuild. Runs perfect, uses
no oil, lotsa torque for a 305.
