Default '86 Dodge 600 Convertible - 03-12-2007 , 02:48 AM

I have a 1986 Dodge 600 convertible with a 2.5 Ltr. engine with
109,000 miles on it. It is terrible on gas and runs very rough. As I
am driving along it seems to surge and sometimes seems to have a dead
spot happening. This happens if the car is warmed up or not however it
happens more frequently when it is warm. I have had a new exhaust
system including catalytic converter, wires, distributor, cap & rotor,
plugs, fuel filter, head gasket (couple years ago) timing belt (couple
years ago) and fuel injector serviced in 2000.
The scan test showed that there was a problem with the distributor so
I had that replaced but it shows everything else is fine. It obviously
isn't and I am wondering what else could it be? Is there a way to tell
if there is a malfunction with the car's computer or a leak in a hose
somewhere.
Any help would be appreciated as I just can't afford to keep taking it
to the garage for a game of hit & miss.
Thanks.
Blondie

go back to the basic's. compression test and check to make sure the timing
belt is timed right. if all checks good have someone that has a good scan
tool check all inputs and outs of the sensor values.

Wow! that's an old one. I didn't think that the 2.5 was offered until
later on. I had always thought that only the 2.2 and 2.6 engines were
offered for that year, and those were both with carburators.

I had a 2.6, and could never get the carburator adjusted right. The
choke also had problems during the winter.

My 2.5 Ltr. is from Arizona originally, built in Sept. of '86
according to the door plate. It runs the same no matter if it's summer
or winter. Always starts but sometimes floods right away from a cold
start (revs upon starting sometimes as well)and I have to give it a
litlle time to settle or play with the gas. I did read on a site that
there was a recal for this year of 600 regarding a problem with the
fuel injector system but I notice in the service records that came
with the car when I bought it that the work had been done, albeit at a
Midas Muffler Shop in Campbell River...Compression test was good and
timing belt was timed just fine, I was told by the mechanic that last
worked on it. What is the correct way to time it, is there a trick I
should try? The mechanic was working on two different vehicles at once
and I wonder if he is a good multitasker or if he maybe forgot a step.
Is that possible?
