Default Bang - 02-21-2007 , 09:53 AM

It's fixed. Autoglass arrived early and installed what the fitter said was
the last new one in the country. At a cost of 400 quid to my insurance
company, but 'only' 60 to me. I'd guess they're profiteering - even Rimmer
Bros only charge 175 for the new screens they have in stock. Unless a
bronze one is actually twice the price of green or clear.

How much is the next guy who needs a bronze one going to be willing to
pay...?

There's no shortage of secondhand ones as they rarely break. Seems it was
a faulty heater element that caused mine to go. There's an external heavy
gauge wire that runs in parallel with the silver track from the input
terminal to about half way along, and it had corroded through so the
silver track - which I'd repaired - was taking all the 20 amps or so. All
very obvious looking at the new bare screen but not on an installed one
where it's hidden by the rubber.
