Well, the Vel Satis was a decent enough attempt.
It was indeed a good attempt and well appointed for its day by most
accounts, but I suspect it probably didn't do well mainly because of the
company's lack of track record at luxury. To be fair to Renault, as an
engineer I tend to dislike their quirky engineering and I wouldn't have one
purely because they're french, but I'd completely forgotten that model when
I made my original statement.

Arguably, it's better looking than the new Kiaguars...

I can understand why you like the old XJs, I even like the S-Type
myself, the jury is out on the XKs, but the new XF and new XJ are just
nasty Korean-looking tat.

I do wonder what people would be saying if either car had been badged as
a Hyundai, Kia or even a Lexarse.

You have to be joking. No, you're serious, I can tell. The XK is one of
the best looking cars on the road at present.

Not even close. Like most people you'll whine that they don't look like
the old Jags for a while then you'll forget why you ever complained.

That, and the Maserati look far to similar, and I'm not a big fan of the
Maserati, either.

They both have very low rent detailing - mostly around front and rear
lights.

I'll certainly forget why I ever wanted a Jaguar, that's for certain.

If I wanted something which looked like either of those, with their
Matsui interiors, I'd buy something that wouldn't break (like a Lexarse)
or save myself tens of thousands of pounds and buy a 'posh' Hyundai.

Jaguar have completely alienated many of their traditional buyers and /
or those who buy on the traditional looks - they have attracted Lexarse
buyers, but they aren't going to have the long-term brand loyalty.

Sorry, but I'm with SteveH on this.

The original XK was very nice indeed - but I'm not sure it's aged awfully
well.

The current XK has a fat arse.

I'm utterly ambivalent on the S and X, but virtually every XJ has been
thoroughly gorgeous - XJ40 apart.

The new XJ and the XF, though... <yawn>

You'd know. You bought a Ford Exploder.
