IMHO there isn't another car in the world that can compete with our good old
RR when it comes to out and out luxury. Best the Japanese can do is the
plasticky gimmicky Lexus, best the Yanks can do is what?? Cadillac??
Lincoln??.There isn't a "Euro-manufacturer" that comes anywhere near, except
perhaps MB, but personally I think their designer has lost his way(?). All
purely personal opinions, I'm sure I'll be corrected by those who (think
they) know better!

Snip

Many wealthy people and heads of state appear to be trading in their
BMW/Royce's in for the other German luxury car the Maybach. Perhaps
they know something you don't.

The original post was spam designed to encourage people to click
throught to a particular blog and get the hit rate for that site up. I
doubt that the OP is interested in the answer.

Anyway, the Royce isn't a British luxury car it's a German
interpretation of what a British luxury car used to be; as is the
Bentley. The best of British luxury car features is found nowadays in
the Range Rover and in Jaguar cars. Jaguar have led Rolls-Royce for a
long time in the construction and trimming of luxury cars and manage to
make a car that's good to drive instead of just being a truck with posh
carpets and some nailed on wood.

Agree with you about Rolls Royce, and Bentley have only just crossed the
line, having stopped production of the Arnage - the new 'posh Phaetons'
just aren't the same.

Range Rover are crack-dealer chic, as are new VAG Bentleys.... which
leaves Jaguar, who have totally lost their way with the XF and new XJ -
both of which look like they were styled by the Koreans and the
interiors designed by Matsui.

I think the pinnacle of luxury British car design was the Bentley Turbo
R, followed by the Arnage Red Label and the old shape aluminium
XJ-series.

I don't normally get involved in these sorts of posts, but........ The
range rover is nothing more than an ovesized cart with suspension that
crashes over bumps and slow-responding steering that has almost no feedback!
The seats are comfy - they have to be, to cover up for the suspension's
unsprung mass!!!

Lol, the best Jags were the series 2 XJ's for ride comfort and trim quality.
The newer versions just became more and more plastic as time went on.
And as for the X-type, well don't get me started! How to take a mondeo
floorpan/suspension geometry design and ruin it! When I was looking to
change my car about 2 years ago I took a test drive in one and was appalled
at the trim quality, the ride (hard and crashy like a BMW) and the
ergonomics of the thing (I had to look "around" the rear-view mirror it was
mounted so low on the screen!). I eventually bought a chrysler 300c Hemi -
excellent comfort, half decent trim (about mondeo quality, not bad in todays
marketplace) and amazing performance. It has all the toys and gizzmos that
I'll ever want or need, it's a nice place to be when you sit in it and I'm
happy with it.

Lol, each to his/her own, it's seriously quick, extremely spacious, comfy,
reasonably well put together (bear in mind the Euro versions were built at
Magna-Steyr in Austria, not Canada) and handles pretty well for its size
once you ditch the standard P7 tyres. I will admit though, that it's one of
these cars that people either love or hate, no inbetween. I laugh at Merc
and BMW drivers for paying so much more than I did - for less toys and
performance! I've owned many different cars over the years - Jags, Alfas,
BMW's, various Discoveries, Defenders and Rangerovers, Rovers, Fords, even
Vauxhalls, but the Hemi is by far the comfiest and most grin-enducing by a
long way. The only other car I've ever owned that I regret selling was a
1978 XJ6C, 4.2 manual with o/d. Loved that car and wish I still had it.
Working in the motor trade (own and run my own garage) I get to drive a LOT
of different cars, and I can honestly say I'm happy with my Hemi. I haven't
driven anything else in the same price range that comes even remotely close
in terms of the overall package (comfort, handling, spaciousness, toys
etc.).

It's built on a Mercedes platform and I read that Alfa Romeo is now
going to build a sedan on the same platform.

Chrysler cars' *styling* since the "merger" was always a bit iffy, but
the underlying Mercedes platform was pretty god, IMHFO.

A £30,000 copycat Rolls-Royce? It must be made in China
