Why not just reregister it? Last time I did it (with an old Minor) it

the local VLO, let them check the chassis plate and bingo.

I also had a friend, now passed on, who used to tow a bike trailer behind a
Reliant Robin Estate and take his classic bikes to shows, on one occasion
the fan belt broke and we drove home forty miles with the heater on and
windows open and it made no attempt to go into the red on the temp gauge.
The engine is as tough as nails.

A mate had one of those and said the igniton tuning was easy, just remove
the internal cover and you can tweak the dizzy while driving so get it spot
on for your drving requirements.

Get it going - you might be surprised.

I got it running yesterday and had fun zooming up and down the drive.
Someone had removed the inspection cover from the side of the
transmission tunnel and the exhaust was blowing a bit, so the car filled
up with fumes a bit too quickly for comfort.

It's the estate version and surprisingly spacious inside.
Also just acquired thet Land Rover for about the best twenty-five quid
I've ever spent. No engine and needs a bit of easy welding, but miles
better than I'd expected and complete with overdrive and free-wheeling
hubs.

I bought a Rialto a few years ago, just to see what it was like, and
it's a hoot to drive. Nice and nippy (40bhp, two fifths of bugger all
mass) and feels even faster.

Yup! Especially on a rough drive with grass growing up the middle! I
reckon acceleration would have been quite impressive if it hadn't been
spinning its wheels so much on the loose gravel. Oddest thing was trying
to figure out which way the steering was pointing when starting off. The
steering's so light, I kept over-compensating and veering from side to
side manically. Hilarious!

To be honest, I can't really be bothered. And if I do it right, I ought
to be able to make a decent profit selling it in bits. Someone paid 100
quid on eBay recently for a engine and 'box with half the anciliaries
missing and no suggestion that it actually ran. This one ticks over
nicely so I'd hope for at least that much. Axles go for 60 plus. If I
can figure out what parts bins were raided for other bits (interior door
handles are MGB/Marina), there may be more dosh to be made.
Also, I could do with the wheels & tyres (Mini sized) for my trailer.
As for the body, I rather fancy hoiking it up a tree to make a
tree-house for the kids!

That's the other part of the appeal of taking the car apart, I want a
close look at that all alloy engine.

ISTR the 750 Motor Club used them for racing when the supply of Austin 7
engines was running low - maybe they still do.
