C'mon guys,

This IS a Ford badge, if on a UK car its pre-script Ford chrome badge
and the blue oval. ISTR on 50s/60s cars (Consul, Zodiac etc)
looks at link in other post
I think we have a winner.

Dunno about "pre-script/oval", though - since Model Ts used the script-in-
oval...
Too quick for my own good. I meant script for Cortina, Escort etc rather
than script in oval and the separate F-O-R-D letters, but of course they
used script for the model even in the 50s & 60s but a different style.

I'm looking for specific models where this badge was used but so far can
only find 100E key fobs where the design is used but the shield, as in
this pic. is not. On these 'early' models ISTR the 'ford' was in a 'V'
type badge at the back edge of the front wing and only the model type
shown at front & rear of car.
Nice one Dave. I knew someone would know!

So what exactly do I have here? Is it a grille badge? Is it valuable to
anyone?
It would help to know the physical size and fitting. Can you put a photo
of the underside, next to a ruler or a 50p or something, on your website?

Well, I'm normally like a dog with a bone - I won't give up, but I have
to admit it's finally beaten me! If SWMBO knew the time I'd spent on
this, I'd be out on me ear. I've looked at the grille and boot badges of
the Mk1 Zephyr at:-

http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/50_fordzephyr6estate.htm
http://www.thanetonline.com/ramsgate...ephyr_1954.htm
http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/uploads/new/17794.jpg

but they are bigger than your badge and have (I think) 'Ford Product' in
a black area at the bottom of the badge. So, I think your badge is Ford,
50s, but used on what, I can't say. Rare? probably. Valuable? possibly.

I'll see if one of my lads can put these piccys on the counter at the
motor spares place where he works to see if anyone else can come up with
the answer. A copy will also circulate in a Jag plant.

Sorry,
Dave

As a postscript to this interesting string, wasn't the creature called a
"wyvern" in heraldic terms?

You're thinking Vauxhall...

Wyverns can symbolise envy, war, pestilence, and viciousness

Yup, definitely a Vauxhall...

Absolutely. In the 11th and 12th centuries, alchemists studied
wyverns at great length for their well-known ability to oxidise
metallic elements, particularly alloys of iron. It is believed that
the alchemists saw great promise in the wyvern in respect of the
plumbic to auric transmutation method that they also sought.

Erm... Where did they catch the wyverns, then?

Well, one of them used to run a pub at the bottom of Eaton Green Road.
Did such a good job of it, the pub still bears his name. Now fairly
popular with students, as there is a halls of residence next door, and a
kebab van parks outside on a weekend.
