IMO, 450-500 rwhp is the practical limit for a manual tranny Mustang. Beyond that and you spend too much time shifting gears relative to accelerating down the track. Plus throttle control in first and second gears is almost nonexistent. Well I'll be damned! No wonder the pro stockers are all stick shift Butthey are only running 210 MPH now, guess if they were capable of 500 horsepower they would switch to autos. |

Al I think they are more of a clutchless 5 speed with just a lever to move. |

One week ago Sunday, My Friend & I test drove a 2006 Mustang GT automatic transmission, with a Dealer installed Vortech Super Charger w/intercooler. They claimed 480 Horsepower. I liked: Nearly imperceptible, without opening the hood, very discreet modification. The insanely fast spin up to redline. :-))) MUCH much quicker than the stock GT I didn't like: This thing hit redline and the rev-limiter so quick it was amazing. When standing on it, at full throttle, it would hit the rev-limiter before each shift??? The power comes on at somewhat high RPM's, I would prefer more power at lower RPM. Even with the rev-limiter kicking in, this thing was crazy quick! I was quite impressed with the mild mannered yet huge power improvement. I was very disappointed with the (tuning issues?) that had this car hitting the rev-limiter and shutting down before every shift. Comments? |

UPDATE: Just found out from a friend of an employee at that Ford dealership that this Vortech Super Charged 2006 Mustang GT (The one I test drove) was purchased by a young woman and crashed and totaled within one week. :-((( Reminds me of the old Jay Leno Doritos commercials, the one telling you to eat them, we will make more... |
