Default F-150 for lovers? - 06-30-2006 , 01:29 AM

Mine is one of several houses bordering a park whose sign says it closes
at 9:30 PM. When a vehicle parks in the lot after hours, some would
assume it's an amorous couple. I see reason to doubt it. The lot is
lit brightly enough to read a book, and a passing cop could appear at
the window very suddenly.

Two nights ago what resembled a 1990 F-150 parked there from 10 PM to
midnight. I was curious because it sat with parking and mirror lights
on. Occasionally they were off, showing that they were being turned on
intentionally. I didn't know why the driver would want to attract
attention and run down the battery while spending two hours sitting
under lights where there was nothing of interest to see.

It returned at the same time last night and again stayed two hours, this
time with the lights off. Because the glass wasn't tinted, the interior
was well lit. From the side I saw a woman but didn't know which side
she was on. When I looked not long before midnight, I the cab was empty
above the window line. This was true for several minutes. I would have
seen her if she'd left the vehicle. Then she was again sitting. Before
long the vehicle left.

I wonder if that proves she was alone. Fifty years ago, amorous teens
would lie across the back seat of a large car, but would it be possible
for two adults to lie across the seat of an F-150 while staying
completely below the window line?

I measured another F-150. It's 62" between the doors and 11.5" from the
window sill down to the seat. I doubt even a couple under 5 feet tall
could lie together out of sight.

If she was of average height, she could have been lying on her side with
her knees bent and a makeshift pillow. That may shed light on the mystery.

The park might be ideal for a woman with a couple of hours to kill at
night; maybe she doesn't want to go home until a roommate goes to work.
If she sees nothing in the parking lot, there's probably nobody at
the park. She can see well in all directions to be sure nobody is
lurking near her vehicle. There's enough light to read, or she can lie
down and listen to the radio. She can eat fast food. It's a quiet
location, and there may be two cars per hour on that road at night.

Now I have to figure out why she kept turning on her parking lights the
night before last.
