Default Intermittent fuel pump and ignition failure 1988 Ford 2 ton 460 Chasis - 08-13-2004 , 02:14 PM

1988 35' Motorhome with 87'-88' 460 drivetrain John Deer Chasis. Carb
with fuel pump mounted outside tank. I have been unable to trace two
intermittent failures. Not certain if the failures relate to a single
componet or a connection.
1. Power to pump will stop at will and remain off for extended
periods. I hot wire pump with power from a secondary sourch and all
runs well. Traced pumps power wire through to a relay and oil presure
switch, both function correctly under failure and non failure
conditions. Un-able to trace line further without ripping wire looms
and dash to pieces. ?Need ford wire diagrams for this model (900 or
1000 series) to locate possible failure points to check.
2. Ignition will fail at times, enough to stall the motor then it
re-starts shortly thereafter (with or without the pump hot wired).
Unit may run for days then have this occur. Mechanics cannot fix what
is not broken so I am trying to find the problem or identify a general
componet/location to break it for good then start replacement of what
is needed.
Any constructive comments out there?
