Default '89 F250 cold stumble HELP! - 02-09-2007 , 05:53 PM

I have an '89 F250, it starts fine when cold. However, although it idles
fine, as soon as you tip into the first part of the throttle, it stumbles
and dies. If you mash down the throttle it runs OK and will surge ahead,
high speed running is fine. After it heats up this problem goes away, it
runs fine at all speeds.

I have the 351 V8 with auto trans. It also has a dead temp gauge, it always
reads cold. Not sure if connected wtih above problem, but I inherited the
truck with both problems already there... makes for lousy driving when cold.

Any help appreciated, pls email directly at: taniw001 (AT) hawaii (DOT) rr.com

thanks!
walt

walt , i'll help you with the gauge problem , the sender for the guage is mounted
into the block near the water pump and is nothing more than a on/off switch.
If there's oil pressure the switch closes and the guage will read something
( ususally close to the middle ). The method for checking to see if the sendor
is broken is to remove the ONE wire going to it and grounding that wire to the block.
The guage should read something , if it doesn't then the problem is the gauge itself.
As for the comming off an idle when cold and stalling , there's alot that it could be
including old plugs/wires filters - all the regular maintenance parts. There is a better
newsgroup for ford trucks than this one > alt.ford.trucks < and you should ask there.

May I point out that you are talking oil pressure and he is talking temp.
