Default any short cuts on the lincoln air sustpension......??? - 02-05-2006 , 03:24 PM

friend's car.....91 lincoln T.C. fuel pump is bad, so vehicle can not
be driven on it's own power.

on the air suspension......

the usual routine - air bags leaked, air pump is locked up........

looking through an after market manual, it mentioned an air valve around
the compressor that you could put air in into to inflate the air bags
but i haven't found any place in the system to do so.

the rear end is siting on the axle and makes it next to impossible to
put on a tow dolly to bring over to where i can make the repairs.

so, that leads up to the question. is there a short cut to where air
can be in put into the system to inflate the air bags to allow them to
stay inflated even on a temp. basis? just need to get rear end lifted
so it doesn't drag the ground.

thanks in advance,

~ curtis

IIRC it should have a shrader valve on top of the pump itself. Each air bag
also has a solenoid on it which needs to open to allow air in or out of the
bag. If the motor is locked up it has probably blown the suspension fuse. I
think you'll need to replace that fuse so the computer can open those
solenoids. Unplug the motor first so it doesn't pop that fuse again.

Open the door and turn the key on and shut the door. Apply shop air to the
shrader valve and the rear end should raise to normal ride height before
those solenoids close.

I believe this will work but have never tried it, I normally just fix the
suspension.

Many pumps don't have the schrader valve. Be aware that if the air bags are leaking
badly you may have trouble keeping the rear up when loading it. If your pump has the
valve you may be better off replacing the air bags before transporting the car. On a
Towncar they are super easy to replace. Check out http://www.arnottindustries.com/ .
You can replace the bags and compressor for ~$300.

thanks for the replies - i've looked on the compressor but haven't found
the valve. that is why i posted - thinking that i was looking in the
wrong place.

like you said, the bags are easy to replace. i can pull the bags and
put in springs in less than 90 minutes for both sides, but didn't really
want to do that where the car is sitting. that is why it would be nice
to hit it with some compressed air, fill up the bags and load it up.
the bags did go down slowly, so they would hold for the duration of the
tow.

does anyone has any information on what years the shrader valve was on
the compressor or maybe what model numbers?
