Better that GM etal should move their corporate headquarter to Japan and
reap the benefits of Japan Inc. Just think NO US federal corporate taxes.
They can get ride of the unions, pay their employees less, offer then fewer
benefits with no structured pension plan.

By becoming a Japanese corporation buyers will assume the products are
better, as well believing the vehicles are more fuel efficient.. Just
think of what that will do for the US as well. Once they are no longer an
American corporation there will be no US manufactures to worry about then
they, and the current Japanese auto manufactures, can make all of the parts
and the cars in low wage, less regulated countries and eliminate a lot of
the pollution in the US.

The price of their vehicles will go up since the vehicles sold by the
Japanese auto manufactures, who already enjoy those competitive advantages,
sell for 20% to 30% more than domestics

..None of the job applicants were bothered by Toyota being a non-union
environment.

"If I can't hold onto my job without a union backing me, then I have no
business working," Harrison said.

Wall Street Journal - May 14, 2007

DaimlerChrysler AG is expected to announce as early as today a deal to
sell a controlling stake in Chrysler Group, Detroit's No. 3 auto maker,
to private-equity firm Cerberus Capital Management LP, according to
people familiar with the matter.

The proposed deal would allow the German auto giant to shed Chrysler's
$18 billion in retirement and health-care liabilities and could open
the door to further restructuring of the nation's unionized auto makers.

A private-equity takeover of Chrysler would mark a watershed for the
industry, which is struggling under the weight of massive pension and
health-care obligations to its union workers. Those debts and the cash
required to fund them have hobbled General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co.
and Chrysler in the face of relentless competition from Asian and
European rivals...

The face of the big three automakers to most people is their local
dealer. I've experienced domestic dealers for years trying to convince
me that "they all make that noise, there's nothing we can do about
it", when taking my car in for warranty service. Or trying to blame me
for the problem.

When treated this way by a Chevrolet dealer, 40 years ago a person
would have maybe bought a Ford or Chrysler the next time. But now,
they can buy a Toyota or Kia or Nissan.

I bought a used Toyota pickup in 2000. I bought it with 219,000 miles
on the clock. Two years later, it blew a head gasket and the leaking
coolant pitted the cylinders. Not only were the head gaskets replaced
under a factory recall by Toyota, the short block was replaced as well
with a brand new one. All on Toyota's dime. Without any screaming on
my part. It now has 340,000 miles on it and runs very well indeed.

The writing was on the wall many years ago when Henry Ford II was
asked about the Volkswagen and dismissed the car, calling it "a little
shitbox". Guess which car surpassed the Model T with the most units
built ever???? That's right -- the Volkswagen Beetle. Over 25 million.
