You obviously don't know anything about automotive battery function. NO 12
volt automotive battery will have an 18 volt reading without being attached
to a (faulty) charging circuit and in a running engine. Ever. The battery
would kick up it's little feet and die. Arguing the point with people who
have knowledge about the subject isn't going to make your van work.

What difference does that make? The powertrain on virtually every van made
is based on a car or truck platform. Ford didn't throw out all their
automotive experience from the model T onwards when they designed your
Aerostar; it's just a car with a higher roofline and tighter engine
compartment. The principles are exactly the same. Insisting your battery
should have an 18 volt charge when it's been explained that isn't remotely
possible with the engine off just makes you sound like a knob.
