Default Approaching Monaco (includes Spanish spoiler) - 05-14-2007 , 03:20 AM

So... the phenomenal Lewis continues to impress, but still hasn't had
that first win (hardly a failure this early in his career, but you
know what I mean!)

They kept telling us that he's never lost at Monaco. Well sorry, but
brilliant as he is, I think he's going to learn how in two weeks. He
can't *really* get his first F1 win, in his fifth ever race, on his
first F1 appearance at this trickiest of tracks...

.... can he?

If he gets pole, why not? He'll win Monaco on Saturday; he can only lose it
on Sunday.

Is running a GP2 car so different from running a F1 in Monte-Carlo?

I would expect that the difference in power, braking, technology etc
would make it so, but I'll be interested to hear from anybody who has
a more informed opinion.

I doubt it. I'm not sure the Montreal Gazette goes back that far, and
foca died after it got spammed out of existence. I should probably
have a trawl round sometime...

It's not impossible. However, there's always a first time to lose -
remember that Reynard always won the first race of every new class
they entered, until they teamed up with BAR...

Given that Ferrari and McLaren are very likely to be running close
together, it might actually be the driver with the biggest fuel load
in qualifying who's in the best position, and Hamilton has shown he
can keep up with the rest with a larger fuel load.

I hope the expectations don't get ratcheted up too far. It's possible
for him to win the WDC, but TBH it's not the most likely result, and
the various commentators would do well to bear that in mind.

One thing that popped into my head after yesterdays race - Kimi has
won a race by blowing away the field. Alonso has done the same. Massa
has done it twice. But we have not seen Lewis blow away the field yet. If
Lewis
wants to win the championship he not has to win races but be able to rush
off into
the distance like the other three can. It's obvious he can win a race. But
can he
crush the field in a race? He may not have such an upper hand on Kimi that
some
think.
