Default Algarve 2010 - 10-30-2009 , 06:29 AM

So, Portugal voted for Jean Todt (and had previously shamefully voted
for Mosley at the time of the sado-maso vote) and the payment* is coming:

Several Portuguese newspapers are today reporting that Algarve has a
good chance to be in the 2010 championship (replacing one of the GPs
which are still uncertain).

The good news is that the circuit is nice and challenging. The only
negative opinion I remember reading was from Luca Badoer, which is
a good endorsement .

* apart from the nomination of two Portuguese men to positions in the
FIA hierarchy (one is in the world council and the other is one of the
7 (!) vice-presidents for mobility).

I did not know about that track, went to google maps,
viewed the 'satellite' photos.
What! Is the longest straight maybe 300 meters / 900 feet?

Looks to me to be almost impossible for passing.

And it relatively close to where I live, so I could go to see the race!

The main straight is relatively long:

It should be fun. I think there isn't any horizontal surface at all.
It's all uphill and downhill like a rollercoaster:

The A1GP and test drivers that have been there say that there are good
places for overtaking.

The current google pic doesn't give much away. This is better.

It was used for the GP2 finale in September. It was pretty good as I
recall.

This video is relatively old (it was filmed during construction of the
circuit), but shows a complete lap from on board:

It's really a roller coaster!

These are newer, taken from a Golf:

and images from A1GP:

Yes, thanks to Shevek, martin, bigbird etc.
Obviously what google maps shows as "Autódromo
Internacional do Algarve?" is not what is there now!

They have come a long way since the 1959/60
track for the GP.

Daymn! (in the words of Will Smith) a new F1 course that has *hills*?

Can't be right, must be that plant extract I had earlier <g>.

Ah. From the Fuji subset of track layouts.

The track looks terribly uninspiring, but maybe that's because it was on
board the A1GP car..
